Events at the University of Birmingham
Thursday 9th January 2020
We shall again be offering the professional development day on Higher Level Problem Solving with a particular focus on university entrance examinations. During this day, tentatively scheduled for 16 March, we shall look at a range of approaches to help students develop their problem solving-skills beyond those required for A level. In particular, we shall look at the way in which university entrance examinations are designed to discriminate amongst high-achievers in maths, and how to help students present solutions in a form which will maximise their success.
Also coming up, on 4 March, is the annual “Maths Big Quiz” for Year 10 students. This very popular event (similar to a Maths Feast but on a larger scale) is held in the University’s rather splendid Great Hall and attracts around 100 schools each year.
Pathways to Birmingham Taster Sessions will be taking place on 19 February, 8 April and 27 May. These are run by the university’s Central Outreach team and include an interactive session to showcase maths as a degree programme to participants and perhaps cover an area they wouldn’t have seen at school.
Keep a look out for dates and more information about these events on our events listing.
