Introduction to Statistics in A Level Maths

Overview

This course will cover the key concepts in the statistics section of Mathematics A level.

Use of the Large Data Sets should underpin all statistics teaching and this event will demonstrate how this can be used to increase students' interest and enthusiasm for the subject as well as their understanding and 'statistical common sense'.

Teaching approaches will encourage an active learning style and the development of sound understanding of key concepts.

Aims

  • To introduce the major topics within Statistics at AS and A level Mathematics
  • To strengthen teachers' understanding of the key topics in the AS level specifications
  • To demonstrate teaching ideas and resources including simple practical work and modelling
  • To consider how technology can be used to enhance students' understanding of statistical concepts.
