Christmas Lectures at Teesside UniversityMiddlesbrough
This will be an inspirational day of fun maths talks and discussions with invited guests and speakers, including the well-known Colin Wright and Rob Eastaway.
Colin starts with juggling, an activity that at first glance has nothing to do with mathematics, and then by following the theme of Patterns and
Predictions shows that mathematics emerges in this most unexpected of places.
Colin is head of research, innovation and engineering in a company that designs and produces equipment to assist with the monitoring and control of maritime (ships) traffic.
Rob Eastaway is a famous author who is active in the popularisation of mathematics and was awarded the Zeeman medal in 2017 for excellence in the promotion of maths. He is best known for his books, including the bestselling Why Do Buses Come in Threes? and Maths for Mums and Dads.
During the event there will be opportunitues to discuss maths at university and possible careers paths with university students.
- To inspire year 10 students to continue with maths post-16
- To show students the range of careers and opportunities available by studying maths
- To have fun doing and watching maths in action
Who will benefit from attending?
Year 10 students and their teachers.
Please try to encourage prospective Core Maths, A level maths and Further maths candidates to attend, particularly those who would be suitable but may not currently be considering maths as an option post-16.
