Introduction to Discrete Mathematics

Overview

This is an introduction to the ideas used in teaching Discrete and Decision Maths for the Further Maths optional modules. The course will provide a basic introduction to some of the ideas and concepts in the Further Maths Discrete options for all exam boards.

 

Aims

  • To strengthen teachers' understanding of the content of discrete & decision mathematics
  • To introduce teaching ideas and resources for discrete & decision mathematics
  • To present discrete & decision maths content in a variety of real-world contexts
  • To provide hints for preparing students for discrete & decision mathematics exams

Who will benefit from attending?

The course is intended for those teachers who have not taught this area of Mathematics previously or are new to teaching Further Maths AS or A Level. It may also be useful for those teachers wishing to strengthen their understanding of the concepets. It is not intended for experienced Discrete/Decision Maths teachers who are interested in the more advanced topics.

Eligibility

Independent school teachers may apply but State school and college teachers have first preference.
